Lae Game Fishing Club's Scoring System Explained
The 'Best Two Days' Rule
Puzzled about why your line class totals don't add up to the Overall number? - it's down to the 'Best Two Days' rule which governs the Yearly Prize Categories -
● Highest, Runner-up & through to 10th Highest Point Score Overall
● Top & Runner-up Female Angler
● Top & Runner-up Junior Angler
● Highest & Runner-up Points - All line classes
● HPS, Runner-up & 3rd Boat – Weighed
● HPS & Runner-up Boat – Tagged
● Highest Individual Monthly Points
Explained
Points for the angler's (and boat's) best two days each month are accumulated towards their yearly total. That is, in the case of each angler, his or her best two days overall goes towards 'Overall', likewise best two days in each line class and in tagging. Thus if you only fish two days per month all your points will come out of those two days - if you fish two days ultra-light and two light and two medium each two will go to those line class categories while Overall will be the best two out of the lot.
For boats the best two days selection is by Weighed & by Tagged.
Note that the published 'for the Month' results tables for both anglers and boats includes, to the right of the various figures, the dates the processing software has selected for the 'Best Two Days' for each e.g. 597.50 15,24 indicates dates 15th & 24th have been selected & total 597.50
The History
The history goes back over twenty
years and the rule was instituted because certain members, after reviewing the
results at the
end of May proceeded to fish literally every day (some were fortunate enough to
have very flexible working hours) to amass points sufficient to swamp the end of
May leaders and take out most of the end of year prizes. This was considered to
be very substantially less than a level playing field and therefore in order to
even things up the two day rule was devised. This subsequently encouraged more
participation & an increase in membership.
Obviously someone who fishes 10-20
days each month is almost certain to return better 'best two day' results than
an angler who fishes only a few days and the angler who fishes a range of line
classes & who fishes two or more days in each is going to have better chance in
each and better two days for the Overall tally.
