BILLFISH Alert
February 2005
What a line screamer this December and January have been. Over 50 raised and about 10 tagged Marlin and Sail Fish have been tagged or caught with-in a 6 week period. Lae Fisho’s have been cursing and swearing, sweating and laughing as the monsters of the Huon steal expensive lures and evade capture time and time again. The heavest fish tagged is expected to be in excess of 100 kgs. Some anglers have been reporting up to 6 strikes in the one day.
Place to find the Marlin - Hotel 4
Plenty of good sized Yellow Fin are still being caught at Charlie 3. The EU fad has been a bit quite over Xmas, but the last couple of weeks have seen some good sized Yellow Fin turning up.

The Dunlop Salamaua Fishing Competition held on the 14th / 15th of January was an exciting event with over 16 Bill Fish strikes and 2 successfully tagged. A notable mention going to Emile Franklin who tagged a 100+ kg Marlin on 15kg line after a gruelling 4 hour fight.
A wonderful night was had by all at Salamaua, with some people having a
“Splashing Good Time”!

Special thanks to Steve and Suzie Lindeman and family, for the use of their house over the weekend. Ineke again as always breakfast was brilliant and exactly what many of us needed. Many great fish where caught including a huge 37kg Dogtooth Tuna by Kirk Robertson.

We look forward to a big turn out now that everyone is back from Holidays.

The National Titles are just around the corner and Madang will be the hot spot this year. The National Titles are always lots of fun with plenty of fish, lots of laughs and heaps of new stories.
Many members have already expressed interest in going to Madang. A large number of bigger boats plan to drive to Madang. If you would like drive to Madang and have not done it before, please ask a member of the committee who would more than happy to offer some guidance and advice for the journey.
Owners of trailer boats should not fear, Consort Express Lines have again stepped in to assist with an FOC deal (Owners to provide their marine transit insurance of course – AON will provide free insurance through QBE. Owners responsibility to organise through QBE.) both to and from Madang. Once in Madang club members will move your boat to a secured area till your arrival and assist with a vehicle for launching & retrieval.
Owners wishing to use the CEL service should list their details on the form on the LGFC notice-board and prepare their boats for shipment for Early March. The LGFC will co-ordinate the shipping for you. We strongly urge those owners considering to fish in Madang to make the commitment, it’s a great location and a very friendly tournament! Get Involved!!

This year should see plenty of gear going under the hammer. Thinking of upgrading, or need a new 6 kg outfit for the Titles, then don’t forget your cheque-book.
Have some extra gear not being used, well bring it on down, because as they say
One anglers Trash is another anglers Treasure.
