December 2003 Newsletter
Well, those that didn’t go, just missed out! Its not many fishing clubs in the south pacific that could encourage 19 boats with 65 anglers/members to drive 52 miles to an off shore island, fish, eat, drink, have fun then return home safely the next day!
Whilst not a truckload of fish was caught we had everything from banana boats to half cabins to 40footers enjoying beautiful Tami reefs and the lagoon. The people as always were accommodating and appreciative of the visit.
Thankyou to Graham Chaffey and the NGI Steel team sponsors who went above and beyond the call of duty in their generous support of the event. What is more they are doing it again in 2004!! Great News.
Merry Christmas and a safe New Year from the LGFC Committee.
Don’t forget the Ladies Comp!
This Sunday 14th, all non-member lady fishers welcome to join in, team dress, boat dress awards, spot prizes, you name it. Ineka has all the details.
Last Saturday saw our first attempt at conducting the Piwi Fishing. Hoping for 10 starters we were surprised to have 32 young anglers role up to have squid put on a hook!
It was great to see so many kids, Mums and Dads lining the marina wall and jetties. Although it was very hot (yes, we will hold it later in the afternoon) a total of 8 fish were caught, the heaviest 1lb! Regretfully there was a huge break-off and a rod went for a swim, which added to the afternoon’s entertainment.
Thankyou to those who attended, it will be on again in the new year. Special thanks to: Ineke, Sally and Ray Seeto for their untiring efforts in getting the event up and running.
Farewell to longstanding members.
Homer Caris who has been a strong supporter of the club and a person always willing to show others the joy of boating & fishing. Homer always a personality, lookout Thursday Island!!
Martin & Sally Powis also leave us soon. Martin’s is a great contributor to the LGFC and is very passionate about his fishing. Whether it be titles, rules, gear auctions or competition his input in Lae will be surely missed. To Sally your kind heart, energy and determination to get involved is remembered by all. Thanks to you both, all the very best for 2004!!!!!
