May 2004 Newsletter
Since March many members have been busy with National Titles participation. Congratulations to those Lae anglers who took the time, effort and expense to get involved in the titles in Rabaul. The trip was worth it and yet again the Lae contingent made an impact. It was especially good to see eight Lae based boats in Rabaul, they needed our support and club members didn’t let them down.
Madang next year, so start planning now.
All details and results with photos are on the
LGFC website. The site is ever expanding, details on the club are being
co-ordinated through Ian Bull who is doing an excellent job. Your support with
more photos and a brief story or two will be gratefully appreciated. Give Ian a
call or email
, get your news on the web.

- Please note the double and leader lengths have been marked on the walkway adjacent to the weigh station for easy checking. You will also note the weigh station now has a capture board so anglers can detail their captures for those very important photo opportunities.
- On the subject of weighing there has been a few anomalies over recent times, we are planning an information workshop for all anglers & boat owners on the afternoon of Saturday 22/5/04. More detail to follow.
- For the diary, LGFC Presentation of Trophies is scheduled for Saturday evening, 7th August 2004.

You have to be in it, to win it!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Hot Spots, the red Banks Fad, Banks and the Commercial Fad are good at the moment with plenty of bait, Billies, yellows and the odd dolphin fish. The Rivers have the razor gang, but oh so flighty.
- New FADs;
Compliments of the European Economic Union, they have sponsored 4 new coastal fads to assist coastal fishermen. Their approximate locations are;
1. Fad 1 147°07'E 6°47'S
2. Fad 2 147°03'E 6°51'S
3. Fad 3 147°44'E 6°49'S
4. Fad 4 147°08'E 7°06'S
Anglers should be sensitive of their purpose but no doubt they are worth a close look.

Subject: 4 Species Comp Update
Dear All,
Please find attached (below) an update for the 2004 4 Species Comp, as you can see the fisho's in Madang have had a great start filling all but one spot. A big congratulations to Gerd Litz (aka The Butcher) from the MGFC with his pending National Record 272kg Blue Marlin on 37, photo attached.
The fishing must be pretty quiet around the rest of the country with only Madang and Port Moresby sending in capture reports for the comp, we look forward to hearing from the rest of the clubs including our newest affiliated club the Milne Bay Game Fishing Club during the rest of the year.
Please include the attached update in your club newsletters and place on your notice boards to keep your members interest in the comp going.
Regards,
Shane Boyce
