March 2004 Newsletter
The last period has been very busy and listed below are just some of the items;
- The February Bridgestone Competition was held over 2 days with great participation and many boats entering. Thank you to Bridgestone Tyres for their on going support which is greatly appreciated.
- Piwi Fishing was held on Saturday the 28th of February from 4-6pm. Again, over 35 youngsters with Mums and Dads lined the marina in eager anticipation of success. Regretfully the water was dirty and few fish were caught however 4 species were captured with a crab taking the runner’s up ribbon. They are out there, we just have to get better at it! Thank you to Ling’s Freezer, Ineka Hunter and committee members for their help in organization.
- Please welcome Mrs Val Smits onto the committee, she takes up the important role of Weighmaster. Members should know the correct weighing in of fish at the gantry, correct legal tackle and completion of tag and capture certificates, are paramount issues in our sport. LFGC will be most attentive in this area.
- Last weekend Ian Bull & Val Smits attended the GFAPNG annual general meeting in Port Moresby as well as attended a rules work shop.
- Last Saturday’s tackle auction went extremely well with 137 lots auctioned and over K20,000 raised for members. Keen interest was shown in the lots with a number of new anglers gaining real bargains. A special thank you to Chris Young who filled in as auctioneer on the day, may his tonsils recover soon!!
