1. Annual 'Heaviest' Challenges

The LGFC operates several annual species challenges for members. The three largest qualifying fish of the fishing year (July 1 to June 30) in the various categories share the respective money pools (50/30/20) in the Mackerel, Yellowfin & Dolphinfish challenges. Only fish captured after verified entry compete. Entry fee for each challenge is currently K10 and entries may be submitted on forms available on the club notice board. Please ensure a Committee Member signs the form to verify payment date.

Each of the these challenges is sponsored by a prominent Lae business who salts the kitty with K500.

2. Open 'Beat the Target' Challenges

There are three 'open' Challenges which are determined when a set target is exceeded - these are not time limited and, once paid, you remain subscribed until the challenge is won. Two of these are LGFC subscription based - the  PC Marlin Challenge (the one that started the Challenge ball rolling) & the new Lester Rohrlach Shark Challenge. The third is the Anderson's Foodland Nationwide Marlin Challenge which is open to all GFAPNG registered club members, no entry fee.

The PC Marlin Challenge (the very last) - target 145Kg weighed

The (Inaugural) Lester Rohrlach Shark Challenge - target 60Kg weighed (revised June 9)

Andersons Foodland Marlin Challenge (Nationwide) - target TBA - (last target, 218Kg weighed or 1900 points went off during the Rabaul Titles)
